As a new addition to the world of sustainable heating technology, it’s understandable that you are likely to have some questions about Energy Carbon products. So, we have listed some of our more commonly asked ones below.
Contact usAre energy carbon products easy to fit/install?
We have heating fleeces that can be simply plastered in to the final finish.
Drytec heating panels can be placed behind plasterboard requiring no wet trades.
Our P.E.T foil has been designed to simply go under any type of floor covering.
Do I need any specialised trades to install my heating system?
No we only use standard trades, electrician and plasterer/dry liner
Will my system need any ongoing maintenance?
Unlike all boilers and heat pumps our heating systems require no ongoing maintenance.
How does it work?
Carbon fleece heating produces electrically powered radiant heat. It is installed directly into the ceiling and heats up objects in a room via 100% safe and natural far infra-red radiation.
What sizes are available?
Carbon fleece heating systems are 0.4mm thick and 600mm wide. They are available in lengths of between 1,000mm and11,000mm and can be cut up to 70mm for light fittings, smoke alarms etc.
Will everything I need be in the kit?
Yes we can supply everything you need to complete you heating system design. We can even supply the cable if you require.
Do you supply an intelligent control system?
Yes we supply an intelligent, self learning, thermostat system controlled by an app. The app includes, open window aware, holidays, frost protection, energy usage and you can set up to 5 events per day on your weekly schedule. Please be aware our system will work with any type of thermostatic controller.
What is it made from?
Carbon fleece is made from homogenously melded amalgamated nano-carbon fibres. Thousands of these fibres can convert electricity into heat at 97% efficiency.
Will I see the heating products from energy carbon?
All of our products are hidden from the user allowing all wall space to become free from radiators etc.
Does it require airflow/ventilation?
No. Carbon fleece heated is powered completely by electricity. It uses radiant heat to warm up objects in a room and not the air itself. It produces zero emissions and does not need airflow or ventilation. Although in a Passivhaus scenario we would recommend the airflow series of decentralised, heat recovery ventilation systems which will maximise air quality.
Are energy carbon products safe?
Unlike many 230volt I.R products, at energy carbon we use 36 volt ac, this way we are in the low voltage directive. Even if any metal implement was to make contact with our heating panels, no electrical harm will be done to you or the system.
Is there any danger of overheating/fires?
No. Carbon fleece heating is a low voltage system which is powered via a purpose-built transformer unit.
Is all Infrared heating safe?
No, near infrared is not safe for continuous human use and can become damaging. However at Energy carbon we only produce Far-Infrared radiation that is readily accepted as a natural heat source for humans and animals, we even use F.I.R to warm premature babies.
Can energy carbon heating products get too hot?
Unlike nearly all I.R heating products, all of our heating products are designed to only reach a certain temperature even when damaged, this prevents any hotspots leading to fires and or damage to certain building insulation etc.
Are energy carbon products low energy consumption?
All of energy carbons products are designed to use low energy, ready for carbon zero targets.
Can I use energy carbon heating products in any building?
Yes, however using any direct electrical heating system it is wise to ensure good insulation to prevent wasted energy.
Can I cut holes in energy carbon heating products?
Yes up to 70mm holes can be cut in to the heating products, up to 5 pe linier metre, without causing performance issues.
Can I zone control with a Energy carbon heating system?
Yes each room/zone can be controlled via thermostats. This in turn will give you further reductions on energy usage.
Will I feel the heating is on even if the air is cold?
Yes to feel cold your body uses energy to keep you warm. Within minutes the Energy Carbon heating system will start to produce Far Infrared and that energy will be absorbed by you making you feel comfortable even before the air temperature heats up.
Are energy carbon products of a good standard?
All of energy carbon products are designed, tested and engineered in Germany and then tested again at the BSRIA test centre in the UK giving you total peace of mind.
Are energy carbon products made to last?
Our heating panel products are designed with a 50+ year life, ensuring a heating system that will last up to and beyond the year 2050
How long will it last?
Carbon fleece heating comes with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. Over a six-year period, zero failures have been reported and the product has been given a 50+ design life.
Can your system remove condensation issues?
Yes using our system gives a very even heat distribution, avoiding hot air, meeting cold surfaces.
Can you solve condensation around window reveres?
Yes we have a product designed to be installed around the window revere to deal with that issue.
Is Infrared cheaper to use than other direct electric heating?
Yes using Infrared will allow you to reduce the thermostat by up to 2 degrees and still achieve an air temperature of 21 degrees. Each degree you turn the thermostat down by equates to a 6% energy saving.
Are Energy Carbon products expensive?
Yes our heating systems are expensive compared to electric panel heaters, however about the same as a good quality gas boiler central heating system and cheaper than air source heat pumps.
How often do I need to replace the heating system?
All of our heating products are designed to last the life of the building, we only have one consumable replacement part on our transformer which is a low cost soft start item lasting 20-30 years.
What do you need from me to get a quote?
We will need a completed order form, full drawings of the building including dimensions and m2 area. Lastly and important, heat loss of the building.
Will you design the heating system for us?
Yes all quotes are free, we do charge for full detail drawings on placement of the heating panels and this is refundable on your order.
Is you heating the same as outdoor infrared heaters?
No, outdoor infrared heaters use more mid infrared which is more aggressive and not suited to indoor living and prolonged use on humans.
What band width is Far Infrared in?
Near Infrared Ray: (intense heat can cause harm)
0.76 - 1.56 microns
Mid Infrared Ray : (intense heat can cause harm)
1.5 - 4 microns
Far Infrared Ray : Longer waves beneficial to humans and living things.
4 - 1000 microns.
8-10 microns is the most beneficial for the human body.
What part of the infrared spectrum does your heating system use?
Energy Carbon heating produces around 10-20 µm microns of light 'The light of life' is around 6-14 µm
How does Far Infrared feel?
We only use Far Infrared that is close to what we as humans produce at 10-20µm of light, this gives a very gentle warming, almost undetectable except you feel warm
How does Far Infrared heating work?
Infrared ignores the air and quickly starts to gently warm you, objects in the room including, floors, walls and ceiling. All of these heat sinks then start to warm the air, this system ensures an even total comfort warmth of the building.
